What our AI can — and cannot — do
Support for understanding, never an automated life decision.
What this is really about
AI can structure information, explain terms and suggest questions. It does not fully know a person, can be wrong and must not replace professional guidance, safeguarding or personal judgement.
Your next steps
Work through these steps at your own pace. Good career decisions come from concrete comparisons, not from finding one perfect answer.
• Label AI output as suggestions.
• Make sources and alternatives accessible.
• Do not require sensitive data for recommendations.
• Provide human escalation for safeguarding issues.
Questions for a useful conversation
Take these questions to a careers adviser, teacher, family member or apprenticeship employer.
• What information does the AI not have?
• Can I verify the claim against a source?
• Should a human be involved here?
Four product boundaries
First, AI output remains visibly a suggestion and is not presented as official information. Second, important factual claims must be checkable through linked sources. Third, we do not require sensitive characteristics to rank career routes. Fourth, we do not automate decisions about access, suitability or safeguarding. When uncertain, the system should open questions rather than simulate confidence.
Answer quality depends on the prompt, model and source context. Persuasive language can still be wrong, stale or unsuitable. We therefore do not treat free-form personal advice as a truth source or use private messages as public test material.
How to check an AI answer
Example: “You need A levels for this role” is a checkable entry claim. Ask for the country, exact route and primary source. “This career suits you” is a judgement; break it into the activities named and test those yourself.
• Is this a fact, interpretation or suggestion?
• Which market, date and exact route does it concern?
• Does the source actually support the claim?
• Which important information about me or the situation is missing?
• Does this require a careers, safeguarding or legal professional?
