The transition happens through concrete occupations
Many “green jobs” are established occupations applied to changing systems. Electricians connect solar, storage and charging infrastructure; building-services specialists work on heat and controls; people in grids, construction, planning and service measure, install and maintain. Search by tasks and recognised training routes rather than the word “sustainability”.
Climate purpose and daily working conditions are separate questions. Meaningful work may be physical, weather-dependent, travel-heavy or tightly regulated. Check location, on-call duties, work at height or in confined spaces, driving requirements and continuing training as carefully as the mission.
Map one local system
Choose one visible local system—a building, heat network, substation or solar installation—and trace the occupations involved from planning to maintenance. This creates realistic search terms and employer types.
• Who designs, approves, installs, tests and maintains it?
• Which established apprenticeships lead to those tasks?
• Which work happens on site, in an office or remotely?
• Which safety and environmental evidence is required?
• Which technology changes and which core competence remains?
